Activity 5.1

1) Q: identify components used in a network that you know of:
A: The components used in a network are: Switch/Hub, file server, Ethernet, wifi, nic, Client server and cabling.

2) Q: Describe the roles of the components identified in Q1.

A: Switch/Hub: The role of the switch/hub is to transfer information, files, emails etc. to the computers or servers they need to go to.
File Server: The role of the file server is to set and help manage access to files such as data files and network-accessible applications.
Ethernet: The role of the Ethernet is to ensure the data arrives at the right computer.
Wifi: The role of the wifi is to connect to many others computers wirelessly to avoid using cables.
Network Interface Card: The role of the NIC is to prepare, send and control data on the network.
Cabling: The role of the cabling is to do the same as the NIC but it doesn’t work quite as quickly.
Client Server: The role of the client server is to function with multiple different clients of different capabilities.


3) Q: Research and analyse reasons why switches are better than hubs.
A: A switch is much quicker than a hub.
